A short self-reminder in case future me forgets this basic lesson current me has been learning this month:

Figure out what matters to you right now. Do that thing.

Simple, no?

The directness is un-one-uppable. The subjectivity is powerful. The immediacy is necessary. The actions – the think, the decision, the deed – must become inevitable.

But never let “what matters” devolve into defaults and mindless routines.

Relationships shift over time. Things change. The places around you evolve. Seasons in life come and go. You win some, you lose some, you never have some.

You become a different person.

The answer to that question you ask yourself in the pauses between life-stuff – “What is important for me to do now?” – also morphs.

The things that are not important to you now may matter more to you someday; the things you care about now might not mean as much in a year, a decade.

And that is okay.

Go after what matters most to you in the present. The journey would be meaningful, the learning effortless (or as close to that as you would ever get), and the growth more satisfying than anything else you could force yourself to become better at.

Remember: The things that matter never truly change – but the things that matter to you, in the moment, do.

You are not here to live life. You are here to live your life.

Just as I am here to live mine.

Experience that difference, and you see why it matters to do what matters to you now. 😉
